I am going to repair this Meiji period tray. The first steps are to sand it down using #180 and #320 sandpaper.

Here are some photos of application of basic lacquer for metal. It is a special type of lacquer that needs to be heated to cure, to about 150C–180C. I heat it over charcoal.

One of the first things I did after arriving in Switzerland is smash this little cup, hand painted by the grandfather of Veronique, my host, to smithereens, Heavy jet lag.
It is very thin porcelain and I almost have it back together. The table in the last photo is about 3 meters long.

After a long flight yesterday I am here getting ready for the 3 day workshop in Chapelle, Glâne, Switzerland.
Breaking things, Edo period Shigaraki vase, kintsugi repair
This video shows me taking apart an Edo period Shigaraki large vase that had been dropped and then poorly glued back together. Who ever did that then tried to hide the repair with filling it with wood and burning that out. I will repair it with traditional, lacquer based kintsugi.
