Kintsugi metal finishing
I am making these for my upcoming workshop in San Fransisco. The second workshop on November 1st. has a focus on the final steps of kintsugi, finishing of the metal. These squares will have #3 and #5 silver on them and we will do the final finishing. Trying to do the final finishing on actual ceramics only works well if you have a piece that actually has a repair, it doesn’t work that well on glaze.
Video, Step 5A, filling and repairing a missing piece kintsugi
This video shows filling in a missing piece using flour and lacquer.
Video, step 5, cleaning up after fitting, kintsugi, how to
This video shows rough cleaning of medium from between the seams. There is mostly flour/lacquer medium but each piece has an area that is rice/lacquer and those seams are much harder and require a different instrument to clean them.

Kintsugi repairs
This is what the bowls I broke a couple of weeks ago look like now. Most of them are very fractured/broken. It is taking a long time to get them back together. I think this is the aspect of kintsugi I like the most. If I couldn’t repair them with kintsugi they would have long ago ended up in the trash. As it is they will be a metaphor for something broken and repaired(relationship), stronger and more beautiful than before.
